Have you met the kind of person who walks into a room and you can literally feel the energy of the room shift, whether positively or negatively? I know many. I have been accused of being this kind of person too, thankfully through positive energy.
This isn’t a factor of personality (though that plays a role) or ‘vibe’ as some choose to call it. Quick science lesson reminder: We are all made of matter. Matter is made up of atoms (as far as we know). Atoms don’t sit around waiting to be told what to do. Atoms move around, randomly it would seem, and fast. As a result, due to the lack of Atom world Traffic police, they keep bumping into each other. During these head on collisions, energy is transferred and dispersed. What ultimately matters is whether that energy is allowed to scatter, or deliberately organised and put to work.
At creation for instance (if like me, you subscribe to the creation narrative), God, using the power of his voice, channelled the energy that was being transferred chaotically in this formless void (Gen 1:2), and turned it into what we now know as the universe. Later on (V28), he would delegate this power to channel energy into creative endeavours to Man, his most prized creation. To our credit, we went to town with it, and civilisation was born, pun intended.
This is what fundamentally separates us from the animal world. We have the power to respond to Entropy — the natural tendency of things toward disorder and dissipation — by imposing direction, structure, and purpose. Be it in technological advancement, or information systems, or economics or social science, the world is literally ours for the taking because of this God given ability.
Let’s bring it home.
When you walk into a room, what energy do you release? Is it chaotic energy (like a 2 year old child), or positively directed energy, or depressingly low energy? Are people drawn to you, or away from you, or indifferent to you? For the record, the latter two are not Godly at all. Keep in mind in whose image we are created.
Let’s step out of the room for a moment. What energy are you channelling into the world around you? The brain power that God put inside you is the most advanced form of an Entropy management system known to Man. Artificial inteligence (yes, that ChatGPT we are so impressed by) is loosely modelled on it. As ridiculous as this may sound, both you and Elon Musk share the same fundamental human capacity to bring extraordinary things into being. Musk did not start with the technical know-how to build a reusable rocket; he started with belief, and the ability to channel that belief into coordinated human effort. The technology emerged from that focus.
Though he may not be a Christian believer (to my knowledge), he embodies Genesis 1:28, through adhering to the natural Law of Entropy.
I may not get to build reusable Rockets, but here’s what i’ve come to know; that if I single mindedly focus the God-given power within me to harness energy towards a meaningful goal, natural Law is on my side. A happy marriage. A flourishing career. Meaningful friendships. Wealth building. Social causes. Nothing is outside the reach of the millions or millions of neurons shooting all around this head of mine.
